The second major event of the Southern California offshore season, the Newport to Ensenada Race, started off quite light, especially overnight, but as the fleet made their way down the coastline, the onshore sea breezes and northerly flows kicked in for a sunny, breezy finish for most boats. The 125nm sprint that starts off the piers at Newport Beach, CA is a simple race course—after the start, head south down the California/Mexican coastline to a finish inside Toto Santos Bay, off the Hotel Coral & Marina in Ensenada. In the short Newport to Dana Point Race (the “day sail”), winning was Jock McGraw’s J/22 TEKEELA. For more Newport to Ensenada Race information, visit http://nosa.org/.
