The California Dreamin’ Series (CDS) consists of three match racing events: the St. Francis Yacht Club Stop on August 29-30 in J/22s, the San Diego Yacht Club Stop on October 9-10 in J/22s and the Long Beach Yacht Club Stop on November 13-14 in Catalina 37s. Up to eight skippers are accepted at each event. Any skipper entered in at least one of the three events is automatically entered in the series. Skippers who enter all three stops shall be given priority for entry acceptance at each stop. In the series, skippers shall receive points based on their final rankings in each of the three events in the CDS. Event points shall be allocated as described in the notice of series. Skippers shall receive zero event points for each event in the series that they do not enter. The first stop in the 2021 CA Dreamin’ Match Race Series was held in San Francisco with winds in the 9-18 knot range and mild currents. The Race Committee did not have to change the starting line at all either day of the two-day series, and nearly 100% of entries were dial-ups – no low or high crosses. The windward mark also moved just once each day, extending the course as wind picked up and shifted slightly. Eight teams were entered. Chris Weis with his crew of Hayden Stapleton, Alex Burrow and Dylan Finestone triumphed with a 13 wins and 1 loss. For more details, click here.
